4/3/18

WRITER OF THE WEEK  Although we are far from October, this week’s author is the New York born author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving.  If you’ve never read any of his other short stories or essays, stop into the library and check one out.

BOOK SALE  Doors open at 5 PM this Thursday the 5th, when members of the Friends of the Library receive a 50% discount on their purchases.  (Membership forms will be available, so if you aren’t a Friend yet, you can join there and then.)  The sale will continue through the library’s regular hours until Friday the 13th.  A bag sale will follow on Saturday the 14th.  The Friends provide funds for all programming at the library, including supplies, fees, and refreshments, and support the library with various other purchases.  Mark your calendars for some great deals on books, DVDs, CDs, and more, and help them help us continue serving the community.

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK  Come celebrate all the library offers with us April 9th through the 14th.  You can drop in today to pick up an entry for our all-ages coloring contest – and that includes adults this year.  We have four brackets: ages 0-4; 5-8; 9-12; and 13 and over.  Prizes range from coloring supplies for the children to a $50 Walmart gift card for teens and adults.  Completed projects must be dropped off by the 12th; judging will take place on the 13th.  We’ll kick off the week proper with rock painting – again for all ages – at 5 PM on Monday the 9th.  On Wednesday at 2 PM we’ll be having our monthly social hour combined with an open house.  Thursday at 2 PM is our monthly adult craft, featuring Spring-themed decoupage vases.  Finally, on Friday comes a fun craft for toddlers at 2 PM and the official judging of the contest entries at 3 PM.

REGULAR PROGRAMS  Music and Movement for toddlers is Tuesday at 10 AM.  Story Time for ages 3 – 6, with picture books and crafts, is on Wednesday and Saturday at 10:30 AM.  Drop-in computer help will be this Saturday the 7th from 11 AM – 12 PM (the session that normally takes place tonight has been cancelled.)  Call the library or check out our website for all the details on all of our upcoming events.

JUST ARRIVED  Last week we suggested some mysteries to read.  Here are some to watch.  We have new DVDs featuring David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, the latest theatrical release of Murder on the Orient Express starring Kenneth Branagh, and three seasons of The Doctor Blake Mysteries.  You can also check out three new Baby Einstein videos to help your children learn about art, music, and literature.

We welcome your QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, CONCERNS, PURCHASE REQUESTS, AND PROGRAMMING IDEAS.  Contact us at 312 Washington Street, ogdlib@ncls.org, 315-393-4325, or through any of our social media sites (you can do a search for Ogdensburg Public Library or find the links on our website, ogdlib.org.)

REGULAR HOURS are 9 AM to 8 PM Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9 AM to 5 PM on Wednesday and Friday, and 9 AM – 3 PM on Saturday.  We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at your library!
