WRITER OF THE WEEK Erle Stanley Gardner – who in fact studied and practiced law – created not only the well-known Perry Mason series but also a number of other characters, spanning private detectives, thieves, and district attorneys, under various pseudonyms while writing for the pulp magazines of the 1920s through the 1950s.
BOOK SALE Doors open on the Friends of the Library Summer Book Sale this Thursday the 19th at 5 PM. Friends of the Library (including those who join on the spot) receive a 50% discount for the first night, but the sale continues through Thursday the 26th – including Sunday the 22nd during the fun festival. Prices start at $3 for hardcover books and $0.75 for paperbacks and decrease the following days, with a bag sale on Friday the 27th. Proceeds from the sale fund programming and other purchases throughout the year, so come out to support the library and pick up some great deals. We have books, CDs, DVDs, and more.
VISIT AUSTRALIA Join us for Didgeridoo Down Under today the 17th at 4 PM to learn about Australian music and culture.
SEE ANIMALS The Utica Zoo is visiting us on Wednesday the 18th at 1 PM, and they’ll be bringing some special guests.
COLOR The adult coloring circle will meet on Thursday the 19th at 2 PM. We’ll celebrate comradery and color as we relax and create. Supplies are provided by the Friends of the Library, or you can bring your own.
MOVIE NIGHT The auditorium may be occupied by the book sale, but we’ll still be watching an animated mystery featuring gnomes on Thursday the 19th at 5:30 PM. You bring friends; we’ll bring popcorn.
MAKE SCIENCE This month’s teen craft features homemade magnetic slime this Friday the 20th at 2 PM.
KIDS’ FESTIVAL This Sunday the 22nd the Friends will be partnering with the Remington Museum to bring you three hours of family fun from 11 AM to 2 PM. We’ll have a bouncy house, games, music, and more.
MEET DANIEL TIGER PBS Kids will be visiting the library with a costumed character and a special story time next Monday the 23rd at 11 AM.
REGULAR PROGRAMS Music and Movement for toddlers is Tuesday at 10 AM. Stories and Songs, for ages 2 – 4, is Saturday at 10:30 AM. Drop-in computer help will be this Saturday the 21st from 11 AM – 12 PM. Call the library or check online for all of the details on all of our upcoming events.
