WEEKLY QUOTE  "No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful.  There is no place like home." – L. Frank Baum, in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

RAFFLE  The Friends of the Library are raffling off a beautiful hand-painted chair featuring a view of the St. Lawrence River and the slogan “There’s no place like home.”  Pictures are available on our website and Facebook page, and the chair is on display at the library.  Tickets are 1 for $1, 3 for $2 and 15 for $5.  The raffle ends this Friday, so hurry in for your chance to win.

LIBRARY CLOSED  The library will be closed this Saturday, July 30th.  Enjoy the parade and all of this year’s Seaway Festival events.

SNAKES AND MORE  Reptiles Forever will be visiting the library tomorrow, Wednesday the 27th, at 1 PM with some scaly friends.  Weather permitting, this program will be outdoors.

AUGUST EVENTS  Art- and sports-based classes for children continue in August.  On the 6th, learn to paint with waterguns (weather permitting); on the 11th play various games out on the lawn (again, if the weather agrees); and on the 18th hear musician Tom Seiling as he visits the library with songs and sing-alongs.  Children can also try out two physical activities with professional instructors – karate on the 20th and dance on the 27th – for free.  Finally, movie night comes on the 25th.

REGULAR PROGRAMS  Music and Movement for toddlers is Tuesday at 10 AM.  Story Time for ages 3 – 6, with picture books and crafts, is Wednesday at 10:30 AM.  Drop-in computer help will be tonight and next Tuesday the 2nd from 6 – 7 PM and next Saturday the 6th from 11 AM to 12 PM.  Social hour will be on the 10th.  Call the library or check out our website for details on all of our upcoming events – weekly, monthly, or one-time-only.

BOOK SALE  The Friends of the Library book sale continues this week at normal pricing.  There are plenty of great works still available.  The $3 bag sale will be this Friday, which is the last day of the entire sale.  We apologize for the scheduling error in last week’s column.

JUST ARRIVED  Stop in this week for new novels by Iris Johansen, Daniel Silva, Julian Fellowes, Ridley Pearson Joseph Finder, and Ace Atkins.  Non-fiction writers Kate Summerscale and Gay Talese have also produced new works on crime and human nature, one focused on the Victorian era and the other featuring the much more recent territory of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.
