WRITER OF THE WEEK  Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, daughter of feminist philosopher Mary Wollstonecraft and wife of poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, is best known for writing Frankenstein, considered by many to be the first science fiction story.

 

CHILDREN’S CRAFT  Have a child going back to school soon?  Bring them in to make a door hanger for their room to let you know when they need quiet while doing their homework.  The craft, targeted at ages 5 – 10, is this Wednesday the 29th at 2 PM.

 

FAMILY BOOK CLUB  This month we’re reading Jinx by Sage Blackwood and making our own living terrariums.  New families are always welcome, so join us this Thursday the 30th at 5 PM.

SUMMER READING  Make sure to get your summer reading records in to the library by 5 PM this Friday the 31st.  The drawing for our musical prizes – including an accordion and a keyboard – will be this Saturday September 1st.

 

SEPTEMBER EVENTS  We’ll finish up our back-to-school crafts with a duct tape pencil case for ages 13-18 on Thursday the 6th at 5 PM.  Children ages 7 – 12 can learn scratch programming and create their own game on Thursday the 13th at 4 PM.  The Family Book Club selection is The Cat Who Came in off the Roof by Annie M. G. Schmidt.  We’ll be discussing it and making cat toys for the SPCA on Thursday the 27th at 5 PM.  On Thursday the 20th we’ll be watching a recent superhero movie at 5:30 PM.  Social Hour with treats and coffee will be Wednesday the 12th at 2 PM.  Our September craft reflects the cooling weather: come in to learn simple Tunisian stitch crocheting to make your own scarves or blankets.  Finally, stop in on the 20th at 2 PM for our adult coloring circle.  All materials will be provided; just bring yourself and a friend or two.  Computer help times will be from 11 AM – 12 PM on Saturdays the 1st and 15th and from 6 – 7 PM on Tuesdays the 4th and 25th.

 

REGULAR PROGRAMS  Music and Movement for toddlers is Tuesday at 10 AM.  Stories and Songs, for ages 2 – 4, is on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:30 AM.  Drop-in computer help will be tonight the 28th and next Tuesday the 4th from 6 – 7 PM and this Saturday the 1st from 11 AM – 12 PM.  Call the library or check online for all of the details on all of our upcoming events. 

 

HOLIDAY  The library will be closed next Monday, September 3rd, in observance of Labor Day.
