WORD OF THE WEEK  Pedagogy: The study of the theory and practice of teaching

LIBRARY CARDS  If you or someone you know has never had a library card, now is the time: it’s Library Card Sign-Up Month.  The Friends of the Ogdensburg Library are raffling off a $25 Wal-Mart gift card for first-time registrants.  The American Library Association is also sponsoring a social media contest: take to Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook now through the 22nd to describe a superpower the library helped you develop, tag it with #LibrarySuperpower, and you might win a $100 Visa gift card.  Finally, children 9 years old and younger are encouraged to stop in and color a picture of Sophie the library turtle.  One lucky piece of art will win an Inspiration Art Case.

SOCIAL HOUR  Stop in this Wednesday the 13th for coffee, cookies, and conversation at 2 PM.

ADULT CRAFT  We’ll be making braided bracelets with a “Figure of Eight” chain knot this Thursday the 14th at 2 PM.  Materials will be provided free of charge.

REGULAR PROGRAMS  Music and Movement for toddlers is Tuesday at 10 AM.  Story Time for ages 3 – 6, with picture books and crafts, will be this Wednesday 10:30 AM.  Story hour will be on break this Saturday, next Wednesday, and next Saturday.  Look for the program’s return on Wednesday the 27th.    A drop-in computer help session will be held this Saturday the 16th from 11 AM – 12 PM.  Call the library or check out our website for all the details on all of our upcoming events.

JUST ARRIVED  We have too many new board books to list here (all brought to you by a generous donation.)  Some of them introduce children to concepts like Before & After, body parts (So Many Feet,) or shapes (Circle, Triangle, Elephant,) while others encourage play (Animals Hide and Seek, Let’s Find Momo, and Shake, Wiggle, & Roll.)  We also have a few based on the hit TV series PJ Masks.  Children ready for less durable paper books will also find plenty to enjoy on our new shelf.  Send them off to school with Here Comes Teacher Cat or Amanda Panda Quits Kindergarten, or give them the giggles with Creepy Pair of Underwear.  Read about a boy who adopts the best pet ever in Dogosaurus Rex, learning the meaning of patience with Waiting for Goliath, about a bear missing his best friend, see a bunch of fast cars in Mama Lion Wins the Race, or try to get ready for a party with one very specific requirement in You Must Bring a Hat.

We welcome your QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, CONCERNS, PURCHASE REQUESTS, AND PROGRAMMING IDEAS.  Contact us at 312 Washington Street, ogdlib@ncls.org, 315-393-4325, or through any of our social media sites (you can do a search for Ogdensburg Public Library or find the links on our website, ogdlib.org.)

REGULAR HOURS are 9 AM to 8 PM Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and 9 AM to 5 PM on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.  We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at your library!
