12/22/15

TURTLE TIME  Stop in to meet the newest member of the library staff.  Sophie Gertrude is a large red-eared slider, mostly likely at least twenty years old.  She enjoys peace and quiet, basking under her heat lamp, and checking out visitors.  Her aquarium is by the first-floor elevator, near the computers.  While she doesn’t like to be touched by strangers, she would love to say hello through the glass.

TAX FORMS  We have ordered 2015 tax forms, but they have not yet been printed or shipped.  We will publish an announcement when they arrive.  Please be aware that the government has limited the number and kind of forms they provide to libraries this year.  We will not be receiving booklets from the federal government.  Additionally, once our supply is gone we will not be able to order more.  Forms and instructions will also be accessible and printable through the IRS and NYS Department of Taxation websites, or you can file electronically.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT Toddlers are invited to shake out their sillies every Tuesday at 10 AM. We’ll have music in the air, instruments to play along, parachutes to hide under, and more.  Meet other area families and come dance with us!

JUST ARRIVED  Take an armchair vacation or plan a real one with our collection of new travel guides.  They span the globe from Alaska to Ireland.  If you prefer a good thriller, visit Tudor-era England in Jacopo Della Quercia’s License to Quill, featuring a touch of humor with William Shakespeare as a James-Bond-like spy, or The Traitor’s Mark by D. K. Wilson, which bases its intrigue on a real-life incident.  Rather look to the present than the past?  Check out a more modern spy setting in The Mulberry Bush by Charles McCarry.  Finally, if you need something to share with your family, remember that the library has audiobooks and movies by the dozen.  You’re sure to find something for that special gathering, whether it’s a new tradition or an old one.

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR  As the library will be closed most of this week and the next, this will be our last column of 2015.  Whether you’ve just finished celebrating Hanukkah, are wrapping up Advent while wrapping up your Christmas presents, making preparations for the Solstice today, or just awaiting the New Year, we wish you a safe and happy holiday!

We welcome your QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, CONCERNS, PURCHASE REQUESTS, AND PROGRAMMING IDEAS.  Contact us at 312 Washington Street, ogdlib@ncls.org, 393-4325, or through any of our social media sites (you can do a search for Ogdensburg Public Library, or find the links on our website.)

WEEKLY HOURS are 9 AM to 8 PM Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9 AM to 5 PM Wednesday and Friday, and 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday.  The library will be closed on December 24, 25, 26, and 31st, and January 1st (that’s this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday plus Thursday and Friday next week.)  We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at your library!
