Annual Report to the Community
The library circulated 67,503 items in 2015, including books in regular and large print, books on CD, DVDs and magazines. The library was visited by 55,691 patrons and of those, 9,722 used the library’s fourteen public access computers. We had over 10,987 Wi-Fi users on our network. Over 3,000 new books, audio books and videos were added to the collection.
The library hosted 107 story times and 62 programs for adults. There were over 113 patrons registered for the summer reading program. We have social hours once a month for the community to come in and get some coffee and conversation with others. We offer individual help with computers four times per month.
Some activities that were done during 2015 were making bird feeders, painting for teens, frozen snow slime, tie dye in the park, Intro to Rocketry, Star Wars Read Day and our Gratitude Garland. The library hosted author, Maggie Mitchell for a book talk. Fragile Planet visited twice with different animals for everyone to learn about and enjoy watching.
Overdrive, the downloadable audio, e-book, and e-magazine service grew in popularity. Titles for children and young adults were added this year, expanding the overall electronic collection even more.
The library received a North Country Library System Summer Reading Program mini-grant. The library also received aid from Senator Patty Ritchie’s office and Assemblywoman Addie Russell’s office. We started the process of installing a lift – the ramp has been removed and the lift will be installed, to make the library accessible. Our elevator had a new cylinder installed, so it is operational.
The Friends of the Library continued to support the library financially by having two book sales. They are planning on having more book sales in 2016. They also celebrated their 30th Anniversary. They do accept new members all year long.
The hours of the library are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9 am to 8 pm. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday hours are 9 am to 5 pm. There are two outside book drops for use, when we are not open.
