WEEKLY QUOTE “[A library] is a space ship that will take you to the farthest reaches of the Universe, a time machine that will take you to the far past and the far future, a teacher that knows more than any human being, a friend that will amuse you and console you – and most of all, a gateway, to a better and happier and more useful life.” ― Isaac Asimov, author and biochemist
AUTHOR BIRTHDAYS Celebrate January with Isaac Asimov, J. R. R. Tolkien, Edgar Allan Poe, Zane Grey, A.A. Milne, Thomas Merton and more. We have their works available on display near Sophie’s tank. She can’t read them, as she is a turtle, so please check them out! (You can say hello to Sophie, too. If you’re very lucky, you might see her on her brief daily walkabout.)
MARIO KART The library will be holding its first-ever Mario Kart Tournament on Saturday, January 23rd at 2 PM. We’ll have trophies for the top finishers, and certificates for everyone. Bring your friends and play on our brand new Wii. The Wii is also available for everyday use. Stop at the main desk to borrow the controllers with your library card.
WEEKLY QUOTE “And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been, full of work that has never been done, full of tasks, claims, and demands.” – Rainer Maria Rilke, poet
UPCOMING PROGRAMS Participate in a Mario Kart tournament (with prizes) on Saturday the 23rd, learn how to paint with water and ink (for teens) on Saturday the 30th, and watch a movie about an insect-sized man with us on Thursday the 28th (we’ll bring the popcorn.)
