WRITER OF THE WEEK Chaim Potok was a writer, editor, teacher, and army chaplain. His best-known novels include My Name is Asher Lev and The Chosen, both exploring the intersection of Hasidic Judaism and secular culture.
HOLIDAY The library will be closed next Monday the 19th in honor of Presidents Day. We will be open the rest of the week as usual.
VALENTINES Children can come make Valentines for family and friends this Tuesday the 13th at 3:30 PM.
WRITER OF THE WEEK Barbara Tuchman, born January 30th, was a Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalist and author of popular histories. She was also the creator of “Tuchman’s Law,” which states that “The fact of being reported multiplies the apparent extent of any deplorable development by five to tenfold,” or: because bad things are reported on most frequently, they generally appear to be more common than they actually are.
FEBRUARY PROGRAMS Our adult craft falls early next month, on Thursday the 8th at 2 PM. We’ll be making paper roses. Social Hour follows the next Wednesday, the 14th, also at 2 PM. The next day, Thursday the 15th, we’ll be holding a relaxing adult coloring circle at 2 PM, with all materials provided. Our drop-in computer help sessions will be on Tuesdays the 6th and 27th from 6 – 7 PM and Saturdays the 3rd and 17th from 11 AM – 12 PM. Children’s programs begin on Tuesday the 13th, when we’ll have materials available for crafting handmade Valentines from 3:30 – 4:30 PM. Movie Night is on the 15th at 5:30 PM: come watch a film featuring small colorful horses. Finally, we have a very special family book club for February. Our featured book is Call of the Wild. The regular meeting is at 4:30 PM on Thursday the 22nd. Following that, you’ll have the opportunity to meet a real-life Iditarod veteran and his dogs at 5 PM. You are very welcome to come meet the musher and the dogs even if you haven’t read the book – the event is open to all.

HARRY POTTER This Saturday February 4th is “Take Your Child to the Library Day.” We’ll be hosting a variety of Harry-Potter-themed activities all day long, so stop in to learn about potions, the care of magical creatures, and more.
VALENTINES Stop in any time in February to check out our display of beautiful vintage Valentine’s cards. They are in both the rectangular and circular display cases next to the main desk.
FEBRUARY PROGRAMS February may be short on days, but we have plenty of programs to keep you busy. To start off the month children can make a cute candy holder on Thursday the 9th at 5 PM. Adults and older children can stop in to make paper flowers on the following Monday, the 13th, at 3 PM. Finally, we’ll be hosting the Thompson Park Zoo (with animal visitors) again on Friday the 24th at 2 PM. All of our monthly programs are in place, as well. Drop-in computer sessions will be this Saturday the 4th and Saturday the 18th from 11 AM – 12 PM and next Tuesday the 7th and Tuesday the 28th from 6 PM – 7 PM. Social hour is next Wednesday the 8th at 2 PM. Movie night will be Thursday the 16th at 5:30 PM.
