WRITER OF THE WEEK  Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, daughter of feminist philosopher Mary Wollstonecraft and wife of poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, is best known for writing Frankenstein, considered by many to be the first science fiction story.

 

CHILDREN’S CRAFT  Have a child going back to school soon?  Bring them in to make a door hanger for their room to let you know when they need quiet while doing their homework.  The craft, targeted at ages 5 – 10, is this Wednesday the 29th at 2 PM.

 

FAMILY BOOK CLUB  This month we’re reading Jinx by Sage Blackwood and making our own living terrariums.  New families are always welcome, so join us this Thursday the 30th at 5 PM.

WRITER OF THE WEEK  Born on January 7th, Zora Neale Hurston was an African-American anthropologist, folklorist, and novelist in the first half of the 20th century.  The library has several of her works, both fiction and nonfiction, including her best known, Their Eyes Were Watching God.

 

SOCIAL HOUR  Warm up at Social Hour this Wednesday the 10th at 2 PM.  We’ll have coffee and treats – you bring the conversation.

 

CRAFT  Join us for our adult crafting session this Thursday the 11th at 2 PM.  Our project this month is a candleholder to light you through to Spring.

WORD OF THE WEEK  Burgeon: to grow rapidly, like a budding flower

 

RAFFLE  The Friends of the Library are raffling off a twin-sized quilt featuring the characters of Angry Birds Star Wars.  Tickets are $2 each or $3 for $5, and the drawing will be on July 23rd.  The quilt is hanging up in the library foyer.

 

FAMILY BOOK CLUB  Join us this Thursday the 29th at 5:30 PM to discuss Flora and Ulysses.  We’ll be writing squirrelly poetry on classic typewriters.

 

LIBRARY HOLIDAY  The library will be closed in celebration of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4th

WORD OF THE WEEK  Arctophile: Someone who collects or studies teddy bears.

 

TAX FORMS  Both Federal and State forms are now available at the library.  Their numbers are very limited, and we are not able to reorder, so you may wish to stop in soon.  These are mostly the basic return forms.  If you need a form we do not have, you can print it out from the internet at the library for a cost of fifteen cents per page.

 

MOVIE NIGHT  Our monthly movie night will be this Thursday the 16th at 5:30 PM.  We’ll be watching a film about a group of children with some very peculiar gifts.  Popcorn and soda will be provided.
