WORD OF THE WEEK  Zastruga: A ridge formed by the wind on a snow-covered surface.  These are usually found in series, rather than alone; the plural is zastrugi.

 

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS  Tonight the 21st at 6:00 PM survival expert Gene LaLonde will be at the library to offer advice on getting through unexpected emergencies, from ice storms to EMP pulses.  He will also discuss his novel A Question of Survival, set in the woods of Vermont after a national crisis.

 

MOVIE NIGHT  We’ll be watching Disney’s latest animated feature (a trip to a far more tropical climate) this Thursday the 23rd at 5:30 PM.  Join us for popcorn, drinks, and an escape from all this snow.

WORD OF THE WEEK  Skippet: a small round box used to protect a seal attached to an official document.  Seals were stamped wax tablets used to prove that a document wasn’t forged, and the image on the skippet was often the same as the one on the seal.

                                    

ST. PATRICK’S DAY  Come to the library this Thursday the 16th at 5 PM to help us solve a mystery.  Children can play games and find candy while they track down a mischievous leprechaun.
