WRITER OF THE WEEK  Although best known now from stories of her childhood teacher Anne Sullivan, Helen Keller was as an adult a renowned writer and lecturer on politics and social issues as well as on her own biography.

 

JULY EVENTS  We have an exciting summer of programs lined up for all ages.  On Tuesday the 17th come learn about Australian music and culture – complete with digeridoos – at 4 PM.  Come back the next day to see animals from the Utica Zoo at 1 PM.  Teens can come make magnetic slime on Friday the 20th at 2 PM.  Monday the 23rd will see a visit from Daniel Tiger and PBS kids at 11 AM.  We’ll wrap up the month with tie-dye in the park on Friday the 27th at 2 PM – bring your own shirt to dye.  Our usual monthly programs will also be continuing as usual.  Social Hour will be on Wednesday the 11th at 2 PM, while adult crafting will be on the 12th at 2 PM.  The Coloring Circle happens on Thursday the 19th at 2 PM, followed by Movie Night at 5:30 PM.  Family Book Club – featuring Frazzled by Booki Vivat – is July 26th at 5 PM.  Finally, drop-in computer help will be on Tuesdays the 3rd and 24th from 6 – 7 PM and Saturdays the 7th and 21st from 11 AM – 12 PM.

WORD OF THE WEEK  Burgeon: to grow rapidly, like a budding flower

 

RAFFLE  The Friends of the Library are raffling off a twin-sized quilt featuring the characters of Angry Birds Star Wars.  Tickets are $2 each or $3 for $5, and the drawing will be on July 23rd.  The quilt is hanging up in the library foyer.

 

FAMILY BOOK CLUB  Join us this Thursday the 29th at 5:30 PM to discuss Flora and Ulysses.  We’ll be writing squirrelly poetry on classic typewriters.

 

LIBRARY HOLIDAY  The library will be closed in celebration of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4th
