Writer of the week

1/23/18

WRITER OF THE WEEK Nobel Prize winner Derek Walcott was born January 23rd on St. Lucia. His poems often reflected, but were not restricted to, life in the Caribbean. The library has several of his volumes, including Sea Grapes and The Prodigal.

FAMILY BOOK CLUB This month we’re discussing the Ranger in Time series by Kate Messner. You can choose to read any one or all of the books. Join us on Thursday the 25th at 5 PM, when we’ll be making miniature copies of Ranger’s first aid kit. (We’ll be talking about dogs next month, too, with a special guest. Look for an announcement next week, or take a peek at our website in the meantime.)

WRITER OF THE WEEK Thornton Burgess created short stories for children featuring a variety of forest inhabitants, among them Peter Rabbit (no relation to the Beatrix Potter character,) Spotty the Turtle, and Old Mother West Wind.

MOVIE NIGHT Join us for popcorn, drinks, and fun this Thursday the 18th at 5:30 PM. We’ll be watching a Lego movie with ninjas! (That is to say: the ninjas will be on the screen, not in the room – we think.)

TODDLER PAINTING Bring your young children to the library this Friday the 19th at 11 AM to help us create flowers to brighten up the winter chill. No toddlers will be painted on purpose, but we suggest wearing older clothing.

TAX FORMS While the library may receive some Federal tax forms over the next week or two, we do not expect the New York State tax forms to arrive until late February.
