February 2020 Events

"The Strange Case of Origami Yoda" by Tom Angleberger is this month's family book club book. Read together and come in on Thursday, February 27 at 5 pm to discuss it and make an Origami Yoda of your own!

This is a free program, all supplies provided by the Friends of Ogdensburg Public Library, Inc.
The 2nd Annual Sweetheart Soiree will be on Saturday, February 8 from 7 pm to 11 pm.
Social Hour is at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 12. Come in for coffee and refreshments. This is a free program. All you should bring is conversation and as pleasant an attitude as possible.
It's vacation week for kids from school, come in and make some crafts to keep those creative juices flowing!

Crafts times will be at 2 pm on:
Tuesday, Feb. 18,
Wednesday, Feb. 19,
Thursday, Feb. 20 and
Saturday, Feb. 22.

All crafts are free to the public. Materials provided by the Friends of Ogdensburg Public Library.



PINWHEELS  Children ages 7 and up can catch the wind by making their own paper pinwheels this Wednesday the 12th at 4 PM.







SOCIAL HOUR  Join us for coffee, treats, and conversation this Wednesday the 12th at 2 PM.








PAPER ROSES  Our adult craft this month involves making roses out of old book pages.  Stop in this Thursday the 13th at 2 PM to learn how.



WRITER OF THE WEEK  Dorothy West was a pioneering novelist, short-story writer, and editor.  Her journal Challenge was an important part of the Harlem Renaissance.


TEEN CRAFT  This Friday the 31st at 4:30 PM we’ll be making necklaces out of metal washers and other materials.


JUNE EVENTS  We’ll kick the month off with a paper-plate craft for toddlers on Wednesday June 6th at 11 AM.  The following week sees Social Hour on Wednesday at 2 PM and two crafts on Thursday the 13th: paper roses for adults at 2 PM and paper beads for teens at 4 PM.  Movie night, featuring a film about a hungry rabbit and a stubborn farmer, is Thursday the 21st at 5:30 PM.  For June’s Family Book Club we’ll be reading Jacqueline Woodson’s Brown Girl Dreaming and meeting to discuss it on Thursday the 28th at 5 PM.  You can bring your computer questions to our drop-in help sessions on Saturdays the 2nd and 16th from 11 AM – 12 PM or Tuesday the 26th from 6 – 7 PM.



WRITER OF THE WEEK  Alice Walker is most famous for her 1982 novel The Color Purple, adopted into both an acclaimed film and an award-winning musical, but she has written numerous other novels, poetry, short stories, and nonfiction.  The library has numerous examples of her work available.


BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK  Bored with your usual authors and want to try something new?  Enjoy being surprised?  Stop in this month and pick up a book or audiobook from our Valentine’s table.  You won’t know what you have until you get home and unwrap it (although there are brief descriptions on the wrapping.)  This year’s selections come from African-American authors in honor of Black History Month and cover a wide variety of genres, from science fiction to mystery to modern-day teen literature.


PAPER ROSES  Join us this Thursday the 8th at 2 PM for February’s adult crafting class.  We’ll be making roses out of old book pages – bring a friend and have fun!
