AUTHOR BIRTHDAYS Take a trip into the future or into the past with H. G. Wells or Edgar Rice Burroughs, chill your bones with the supernatural monsters of Stephen King or the more human monsters of Agatha Christie, explore the first half of the 20th century with F. Scott Fitzgerald, Upton Sinclair, or Truman Capote, and sit down with a book of poetry from O Henry, T. S.
Welcome to September at the library. With the weather cooling, we have programming for all ages and, as always, the latest books and DVDs available on our shelves. Stop in to try something new or revisit an old favorite.
COMPUTER HELP Need help creating electronic documents, navigating the internet, or using your new eReader? We can help. Drop in tonight (September 1st) from 6 – 7. Call ahead for an appointment or just bring in your questions.
SOCIAL HOUR Our next social hour is Wednesday the 9th at 2 PM. Stop by to talk to your neighbors, drink coffee, and munch on treats.
NEW DISPLAY Are you disappointed that the Bassmaster Tournament is over? Miss the fish? Then stop by the library: we have a new display of vintage fishing lures, poles, and more. These unique and functional collectables come from a variety of sources. The long cabinet features the collection of Shannon Demers, while the lures in the circular cabinet are on loan from Bob Bowman, Thomas Murray, and Dean Marshall. As always, we have plenty of books about fishing for you to check out if the display inspires you.
SOCIAL HOUR Our next social hour is tomorrow (Wednesday) the 12th, at 1 PM. Stop by to talk to your neighbors, drink coffee, and munch on treats.
FIREFIGHTERS AND ICE CREAM Come down to the library this Saturday, August 15, at 11 AM for fire safety tips from the Ogdensburg Fire Department. Afterwards, stick around and spoil your lunch with a delicious ice cream sundae.
EVIL LEAGUE TRYOUTS Calling all villains! Come to the library on Saturday, August 22nd, and join your fellow evil-doers in a plot to take over Ogdensburg. The super-secret meeting starts at 11 AM.
ROCKETS! Children can come to the library this Saturday, the 11th, and learn about rocketry from Edge on Science. We will be creating and safely launching our own rockets during this program, so it is for ages 7 and up.
ADULT SUMMER READING Read any good books lately? Stop by the library and fill out a paper hot air balloon to recommend them to your friends and neighbors. By doing so, you’ll be entered in an end-of summer drawing for one of at least three prizes. If you’re looking for a good read, explore the titles posted on the bulletin board and take a chance on discovering something new.
BOOK SALE Our book sale starts next Thursday, the 16th, at 5 PM. We have some great deals on books, DVDs, sewing patterns, records, and more. Stop in any time the library is open from that Thursday until Friday the 24th. There will be no bag sale this year, so don’t delay!
SOCIAL HOUR Our next social hour is tomorrow (Wednesday) the 10th, at 1 PM. Stop by to talk to your neighbors, drink coffee, and munch on treats.
PUZZLES The library provides many ways of meeting new people. If you can’t make the social hour or any of our other programs, you can stop by whenever we’re open to work on a jigsaw puzzle. We almost always have a 500 - 750 piece puzzle set out on a table directly in front of the bay windows by the new books. Anyone can contribute – spend five minutes or an hour hunting down just the right piece, alone or with friends. The library also welcomes donations (with all the pieces and in the original box, please) to help us keep this informal service going.
SUMMER READING Children can now sign up for summer reading. Visit our website for a link to register online. (They will need a parent or guardian’s email.) Once they’ve registered, they can track their books, earn points for prizes, design their own superheroes, and participate in fun activities. Those without computer access can participate using paper reading logs (available at the desk) and will be eligible for the same rewards and raffle tickets. We’ll have a full schedule of superhero (and supervillain) themed programming in July and August. Don’t miss it!
