WORD OF THE WEEK  Pettifogging: describes small, unimportant (petty) details, or the people who spend too much attention on such details

MOVIE NIGHT  We’ll be showing a movie about a very bossy infant this Thursday the 17th at 5:30 PM.  As always, popcorn and beverages will be provided.  Bring your friends and join the fun!

ADULT SUMMER READING  Recommend books and earn a chance to win in our summer raffle.  Prizes include gift cards to The Dirty Gringo, Joann Fabrics and Crafts, and Pizza Hut, and the drawing will be a week after Labor Day.  Check out the bulletin board in the library for hints at what your neighbors are reading this summer.

EVIL LEAGUE TRYOUTS  Calling all villains!  Come to the library this Saturday, August 22nd, prove yourself worthy, and join your fellow evil-doers in a plot to take over Ogdensburg.  The super-secret meeting starts at 11 AM.

ADULT READING CONTEST  This is the last week to enter our “Escape the Ordinary” drawing.  To enter, just write the name of a book you’ve read this summer on a balloon and give it to a staff member.  You could win a New York Mets backpack-cooler, a folding camp chair, or a $20 gift certificate to The Sandwich Warehouse on Canton Street.  Don’t delay – balloons must be submitted by Saturday the 22nd at 3 PM!

CHILDREN’S READING RAFFLE  Have your children been keeping track of their reading online or on paper?  Remind them that Summer Reading ends on the last day of August.  If they want a chance to win one of our five big prizes (or if they just want something small from the prize barrel) they need to come in by Monday the 31st.

ROCKETS!  Children can come to the library this Saturday, the 11th, and learn about rocketry from Edge on Science.  We will be creating and safely launching our own rockets during this program, so it is for ages 7 and up.

ADULT SUMMER READING  Read any good books lately?  Stop by the library and fill out a paper hot air balloon to recommend them to your friends and neighbors.  By doing so, you’ll be entered in an end-of summer drawing for one of at least three prizes.  If you’re looking for a good read, explore the titles posted on the bulletin board and take a chance on discovering something new.

BOOK SALE  Our book sale starts next Thursday, the 16th, at 5 PM.  We have some great deals on books, DVDs, sewing patterns, records, and more.  Stop in any time the library is open from that Thursday until Friday the 24th.  There will be no bag sale this year, so don’t delay!
