WRITER OF THE WEEK  This week’s writer is Nobel Prize Winner Thomas Stearns Eliot, most widely known for his poetry (“The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” “The Waste Land,” “Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats,” among others,) but also an accomplished playwright and essayist.

 

FAMILY BOOK CLUB  Help us make cat toys for the animal shelter (or your own pets) and discuss The Cat Who Came in Off the Roof by Annie M. G. Schmidt this Thursday the 27th at 5 PM.  New members are always welcome.

 

OCTOBER EVENTS  Ready to get spooky?  Children ages 7 – 12 can join us on Thursday the 11th at 4 PM to make creepy slime out of household ingredients.  This month’s family book club meets on the 25th – we’ll be discussing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and learning a few magic tricks of our own.  The library’s annual Halloween party will be Saturday the 27th from 1 – 2:30 PM.  There will be candy, games, and prizes, so make sure you prepare your costumes a few days early.  Adults will be making pumpkin-themed candleholders on Thursday the 11th at 2 PM.  Movie night on the 18th will feature the latest Star Wars movie, rated PG-13.  Our regular programs will be as follows: Drop-in Computer Help on the 2nd, 6th, 20th, and 23rd; Social Hour on the 10th; and Adult Coloring Circle on the 18th.  The Friends of the Library will be holding their Fall Book Sale from Thursday October 18th through Saturday the 27th.  Look for more details in the coming weeks.  Finally, the library will be closed on Monday the 8th.
