Cake Pans

WRITER OF THE WEEK  Under the pen name Mary Renault, Mary Challans wrote numerous fiction and nonfiction works about Ancient Greece.

TEEN CRAFT  Start the school year off by making a snazzy duct tape case for your pencils, pens, and other school supplies this Thursday the 6th at 4 PM.

CAKE PANS  Did you know that you can borrow fancy cake pans from the library?  We just processed a new donation of character pans, ranging from Blue’s Clues to Dora the Explorer to Harry Potter to a large dinosaur.  They are free to check out for one week; all we ask is that you clean them well before you bring them back.  If you have some pans taking up space in your kitchen or cupboard, we are still accepting donations.

NEW CHAIRS  Thank you to the Friends of the Library for purchasing new chairs to replace the deteriorating ones in the computer area.  If you are interested in joining the Friends, you can contact the library for more information or visit our website.

WEEKLY QUOTE “By their hands I fain would clasp them – ah! each lives but in a name; But the freedom that they fought for, and the country grand they wrought for, Is their monument to-day, and for aye.” – Thomas Dunn English, American poet and politician

ADIRONDACK MUSEUM  The library once again has a discount pass for the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.  It can be checked out at the front desk for two days at a time, and will give 50% off admission for four adults or two adults and children.  Stop in or call for all the details.

WEEKLY QUOTE  I love any excuse to come to New York - when it's not February. – K. A. Applegate, children and young adult author

TAX FORMS  Federal and state forms and instructions have arrived.  (The exception, the Federal 1040s, were sent to us last week and should be here shortly.)  Due to new regulations we will not receive any more shipments this year, so do not delay your trip in to pick them up.  Forms we do not have on paper or that have run out can be printed out at home or at the library for a small fee.  Library staff cannot offer tax advice.  The St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging is offering free classes on Thursdays from 9 AM – 1 PM at the Rescue Squad building on Pickering Street.

WATCH OUT FOR BIRDS  Let us help you kick off the winter break this month.  Come to the library on Saturday the 13th at 11 AM to learn about local kinds of birds and make your own birdfeeder to hang in your yard or from your porch.  This project will involve the use of peanut butter, nuts, and seeds.
