WEEKLY QUOTE "Spring scarce had greener fields to show than these of mid September; through the still warm noon the rivulets ripple forth a gladder tune than ever in the summer." - Edward Dowden, Irish writer
FAMILY BOOK CLUB Join us this Thursday, the 15th, at 5 PM for the first meeting of our new family book club. We’ll be reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl. You do not have to purchase your own copy or read the book before the meeting. Middle- and high-schoolers are also invited to the comic book reading club starting later this month on the 29th.
CONSTRUCTION Work has begun on the library’s new exterior lift. We expect the coming weeks to be a little loud and a little muddy, but we are as excited as you to see this project completed and full access to the building restored. With a new sidewalk and repairs to the stucco where the old ramp was, the new lift should be operational by the end of November. The handicap parking space on that side of the building may occasionally be blocked until that time. As always, please contact the library with any concerns. Thank you for your patience.
COMPUTER HELP Need help with your eReader, the Internet, or Microsoft Office? We hold drop-in computer instruction sessions four times a month. Stop in this Saturday, the 24th, from 11 – 12 or next Tuesday, the 27th, from 6 – 7. Call ahead for an appointment or just bring your questions.
TEEN CRAFT Ever wanted your own container of spiders, snakes, or eyeballs? Stop in to make creepy specimen jars this Saturday, October 24th, at 1:30 PM.
STAR WARS Celebrate Star Wars Reads Day with us on Saturday, October 10th. We’ll have crafts, games, and – of course – books. Prepare for the new movie, learn the ways of the Force, and defeat bad guys. Activities begin at 2 PM, but you can start reading any time.
CONSTRUCTION Thank you to the City for removing and repaving our handicapped parking space. The new surface should last for years to come and provide better access to the new lift when it is installed.
COMPUTER HELP Need help with your eReader, the Internet, or Microsoft Office? We hold drop-in computer instruction sessions four times a month. Come by this Saturday (the 3rd) from 11 – 12 or next Tuesday (October 6th) from 6 – 7. Call ahead for an appointment or just bring your questions.
SOCIAL HOUR Our monthly gathering of coffee, treats, and conversation will be next week on Wednesday the 14th at 2 PM. Take a break from the Fall weather to warm your body and your mind.
POKEMON HUNT Come catch ‘em all – or at least pick up a few new cards for your deck. Search the library for Pokémon cards, battle gym leaders, and throw Pokéballs starting at 1:30 this Saturday the 26th. Defeat every challenge to earn your own trainer’s certificate.
ADULT CRAFT This month we’ll be making fall-themed bookends out of burlap, thread, and paint. If you missed yesterday’s session, we’re having another one next Monday evening (the 28th) from 6 PM – 7:30 PM. Materials will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Library, but you can always bring your own “notions” from home for a truly personalized project.
SEED LIBRARY If you borrowed seeds from our collection (or even if you didn’t,) now is the time to think about helping us restock. We’re looking for viable seeds, preferably from heirloom varieties of edibles, herbs, and flowers. Just collect the seeds from a healthy plant, label the envelope, and return. If you’re new to the process, we have books that can show you the steps for different kinds of seeds. All donations are appreciated and will help us keep this service going next year.
