WORD OF THE WEEK Vacillate: to waver (go back and forth) between two (or more) options.
ADULT READING RAFFLE This is your last week to enter our adult summer reading program. Prizes include gift cards to The Dirty Gringo, Pizza Hut, and Joann’s Fabrics. Just recommend a book or five to get your ticket – no purchase necessary. Entries close this Saturday the 9th and the drawing will be on Monday the 11th. Look for a list of community-recommended books online next week.
ADIRONDACK PASSES You still have time to borrow the library’s discount passes for the Adirondack Experience and the Wild Center. Both locations will close after Columbus Day in October, so don’t miss out. Call the library or stop in for full details on how the passes work.
WORD OF THE WEEK Ranidaphobia: A fear of frogs. (Also occasionally used is the term batrachophobia, a fear of amphibians (frogs, toads, newts, etc.) in general.)
MOVIE NIGHT Come watch an animated movie featuring the adventures of some popular wild-haired toys this Thursday the 20th at 5:30 PM. Popcorn will be provided, so bring your friends and family.
SEED LIBRARY Our seed library has been restocked. We have selections ranging from beans to zucchini, including a number of varieties you’ve probably never tried before as well as flowers to brighten up your lawn. The seed library is completely free. Just come in, browse the seed packets, then transfer a few seeds into one of the smaller envelopes to take home with you. (There is no hard limit on what you can take; we just ask that you leave some for your neighbors.) Enjoy your plants all season and then, if you can, collect some of the seeds in the Fall and help us replenish the library for next year. Happy gardening!
POKEMON HUNT Come catch ‘em all – or at least pick up a few new cards for your deck. Search the library for Pokémon cards, battle gym leaders, and throw Pokéballs starting at 1:30 this Saturday the 26th. Defeat every challenge to earn your own trainer’s certificate.
ADULT CRAFT This month we’ll be making fall-themed bookends out of burlap, thread, and paint. If you missed yesterday’s session, we’re having another one next Monday evening (the 28th) from 6 PM – 7:30 PM. Materials will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Library, but you can always bring your own “notions” from home for a truly personalized project.
SEED LIBRARY If you borrowed seeds from our collection (or even if you didn’t,) now is the time to think about helping us restock. We’re looking for viable seeds, preferably from heirloom varieties of edibles, herbs, and flowers. Just collect the seeds from a healthy plant, label the envelope, and return. If you’re new to the process, we have books that can show you the steps for different kinds of seeds. All donations are appreciated and will help us keep this service going next year.
