LIBRARY BUDGET From Executive Director, Penny Kerfien: Due to the budget cuts of 2017, of $39,000 plus, and for 2018, of $54,609, the library will cut hours on Saturdays. There will also be a page position cut (normally a high school student, working part time.) These changes went into effect on December 1, 2017. More changes are a possibility.
GINGERBREAD Come help decorate the library’s gingerbread house this Thursday the 7th at 5 PM. We’ll be providing all the supplies.
DREIDEL Learn how to play Dreidel and earn chocolate coins next Tuesday the 12th at 3:30 PM. This traditional game is fun and easy to learn (and you can take home a dreidel to keep.)
WORD OF THE WEEK Iceblink: A reflection in the clouds caused by light hitting a field of ice.
FAMILY BOOK CLUB Read and discuss books with your children in our Family Book Club. This month we’ll be talking about Grace Lin’s Year of the Dog and learning to use chopsticks while trying some traditional Taiwanese foods. Join us this Thursday the 30th at 5 PM.
DECEMBER PROGRAMS Help the library make a gingerbread house next Thursday the 7th at 5 PM – we’ll provide the materials. The following Tuesday, on December 12th, come learn how to play Dreidel and earn some gelt (otherwise known as chocolate coins) at 3:30 PM. Our monthly movie night is that same week, on Thursday the 14th at 5:30 PM. That Saturday the 16th join us for a Who-bilation – with snacks, stories, and a visit from the Grinch himself, all starting at 2 PM. Finally, join our family book club on the 21st at 5 PM. We’ll be reading Amulet: The Stonekeeper. For adults, we have computer help on the 2nd, 5th, and 16th, as well as social hour on the 13th and a craft on the afternoon of the 14th. The library will be closed on the 25th and 26th and January 1st.
SNOWFLAKES Have a spare minute? Stop in and make a paper snowflake to decorate the library or your home. They aren’t cold and never melt in the sun! The display and materials will be up all month.
GOLDFISH CRAFT Children and teens can make goldfish “bowl” ornaments this Thursday, December 10th, at 5 PM. Add them to your Christmas tree, a window, or anything else you decorate. We have a number of colors available, and they can suit any season.
DREIDEL Learn how to play this traditional game and earn chocolate coins at the same time. You’ll be able to take your dreidel home with you to continue playing with family and friends. Don’t miss it – this Saturday, the 12th, at 2 PM.
WREATHS The Friends of the Library are raffling off two more attractive Christmas wreaths to decorate your home this season. Tickets are fifty cents each, or three for a dollar. The drawing takes place on December 7th, so don’t delay. Wreaths are on display in the library and are pictured on our website.
DECEMBER Coming up next month: crafts with candles, crafts with (plastic) goldfish, a chance to spin a dreidel to win chocolate, and a chance to visit with Santa Claus. All dates and times are available on our website, or just watch this space. As an early reminder, the library will be closed on the 24th, 25th, 26th, 31st, and January 1st, so plan your reading and viewing needs ahead of time!
